Behind The Books: What This Journey Has Taught Us

For the past two years, much of our work at The Living Green Company has been quietly shaped by three books.
There has been planning, writing, stopping, starting again, doubting, rewriting, deleting whole sections, returning to ideas we thought we had finished and slowly finding our way forward.
It has not always been neat.
There have been late nights, messy notes, moments of complete uncertainty and plenty of times when we wondered whether we were ever going to get there. However, there has also been laughter, joy, discovery and a deepening belief in why we began.
Now, with two books published and the third book in the series complete, we can finally pause for a moment and look back at what this journey has meant.
The Living Green Company Wellbeing Series began with a simple idea: that nature is not separate from wellbeing. It is not an extra, a luxury or something we only turn to when we have time. It is part of how we live, recover, connect and make sense of the world around us.
The first book, The Garden Within, explored the more personal side of wellbeing. It looked at how gardens, green spaces and everyday contact with nature can help us slow down, notice more and begin to feel steadier within ourselves.
The second book, Among the Wild Things, turned towards the lives around us. Birds, insects, animals, trees, hedges, soil and all the small wild things we often overlook. It became a book about coexistence, observation and learning to see ourselves as part of a wider living world.
The third book, Together We Grow, has taken us somewhere slightly different again. It looks at shared landscapes, belonging, community, recovery, creativity and the quiet ways green spaces hold more than one life at a time.
Together, the three books have become a journey.
From the inner self.
To the living world around us.
To the spaces we share.

But what we did not expect was how much writing them would change us too.
We began with ideas about nature and wellbeing but the more we wrote, the more personal it became. We found ourselves noticing small moments differently. A bird at the edge of a path. Light through leaves. A bench in a quiet corner. A walk that cleared more than our legs. A garden that offered calm without asking anything in return.
We have always believed in the importance of gardens and green spaces but this process has made that belief even stronger.
Nature is not only beautiful. It is supportive. It is grounding. It gives us places to pause, places to recover, places to reconnect with ourselves and with each other.
Perhaps most importantly, it is there in ordinary moments.
Not only in dramatic landscapes or perfect gardens, but in small daily encounters. A cup of coffee outside. A few minutes listening to water. A walk through trees. A conversation that happens more easily when no one is sitting across a table trying too hard.
That has been one of the biggest lessons of this whole journey.
Wellbeing does not always arrive through big changes.
Sometimes it begins in the smallest moments.
This has also been a journey of doubt.
Writing a book is hard. Writing three has been something else entirely. There were times when the ideas felt clear, and times when everything felt tangled. There were chapters that came easily and chapters that had to be pulled apart again and again before they felt right.
There were moments when we lost confidence.
And moments when a sentence, a memory or a simple observation reminded us why we were doing it.
Because these books were never meant to be instructions.
They were never meant to tell anyone how to live.
They were written as quiet companions. Gentle reflections for anyone who has ever felt tired, overwhelmed, disconnected or unsure where to begin. For anyone who has found comfort in a garden, a path, a tree, a patch of sunlight or the sound of birds.
And now, as this three-book series comes together, we feel proud.
Relieved, definitely.
But mostly proud. Proud that we kept going. Proud that the books found their shape. Proud that The Living Green
Company now has a clearer voice, a stronger purpose and a deeper understanding of what it wants to offer.
We are also excited about what comes next.
Originally, we imagined the hardback book would simply bring the three books together in one place. But after everything we have learned, it has become clear that it needs to be something different.
Not just a collection.
Not just a summary.
Something more personal, more visual, more grounded in the small moments that have shaped this whole journey.
A book about living green moments.
The bench. The sparrow. The dog walk. The sound of water. The coffee outside. The pause we almost missed. The everyday encounters with nature that remind us we are part of something larger than ourselves. That book will come next.
But for now, we are allowing ourselves to enjoy this moment.
Two books published.
A third book complete.
A journey that has been full of work, doubt, laughter, mess, learning and joy. And a belief, stronger than ever, that nature and wellbeing belong together, not occasionally, not perfectly, but every single day.
Thank you for being part of the journey so far.
